Wi-Connect ! Accessories
Wireless network standards [802.11,a,b,g]
were created to provide easy and inexpensive high speed wireless gear
for the home and office. As a result, wireless networks [Wi-Fi], and wireless-enabled
user computers, have proliferated. The standard used in commercial hotspots
is 802.11b.
Users who need a wireless adapter can get them at most computer and office
supply stores, or, at the Wi-Connect display in the local on-site store.
Our Wi-Connect Accessories are fully compatible with the latest wireless
standards, with wireless networks and other hotspots. But, Wi-Connect
Accessories are chosen specifically for the unusual requirements of outdoor
hotspot users. Wi-Connect Accessories can make a real difference in a
successful connection.
Wi-Connect ! works with 802.11b/g [1-2-5-11-22-54mbps] compatible devices
operating at 2.4 GHz. Users will need a wireless network adapter on their
computer. Many new computers have them built in, while most older computers
can get adapters that plug in easily. Linksys, Netgear, D-Link provide
consumer versions for sale at many electronics stores. Macintosh users
can use Apple’s Airport adapters. Users should be familiar with
installing such devices and the software drivers, or know someone who
can do it for them. Your adapters will need to be set up with the
factory defaults for proper operation [Obtain IP addr and DNS addr automatically].
Special situations where the
signal is fair or poor at your location may require special solutions.
Users might require special adapters with removeable antennas, and a special
antenna, to get a better signal. Ex: Using an Access Point [with
special antenna, or located in a better spot] as a Client Adapter with
an Ethernet patch cable to your computer might improve your signal.
But choosing the right special solution might prove tricky. SoftCopy
also provides literature at the displays to help explain when and why
different accessories may be useful.
